Back the Blue. That’s the message from The Good Samaritan Center and other Laurel area businesses, as they urge the community to get behind the Laurel Police Department.
The Good Samaritan Center will host a community-wide event of encouragement and support for the Laurel Police Department on Saturday, September 3rd, from 3 to 7 pm in front of Plaza Bingo & NUTS in the Parkside Plaza Shopping Center (986 N. 16th Avenue, Laurel, MS 39440).
The event, called the “Back the Blue Barbecue” is designed as a salute to the Laurel Police Department and to raise funds to purchase body cameras and other much needed equipment.
“These officers work extremely hard and put their lives on the line every day to make sure every neighborhood, every business and every resident and visitor to Laurel is safe,” said Kathy Clem, Executive Director of the Good Samaritan Center, that runs Laurel’s only community soup kitchen. “I encourage residents and visitors to come out and give back to our officers. Take the time to tell them how much you appreciate the work they do and let them know that they have your support.”
Barbecue chicken plates will be available for $10, and tickets are available before the event at NUTS – Neat Used Things for Sale and a LIMITED number of tickets are available online. Youngsters can enjoy space jumps, ride a mini train, play carnival games and more for a fee. The event will also feature a live music and a silent auction with items from many Laurel businesses. NUTS and Plaza Bingo will be running Back the Blue specials and discounts.
